lyrics

Late at night in a suburb of LA
I arrive to a house that's already sleeping.
They said they'd try to wait up,
but Kyle's got work at six.
I lay on the couch
the Lai's got when we were ten,
curled on my old spot,
but now I'm too tall to fit.
These days, everything feels different.
These days, everything feels just the same.
I can't escape the fact that this shifting life is the norm.
Three years have passed since
we sang about staying gold,
and Houston's calling.
Time to go back to the road that goes ever on.
(Get your facts straight. I'm never coming back.)
This voice in my head
says that all hope is gone.
I became what I hated.
I sold out my songs,
but I check my cell phone
for the missed calls and texts
and the screen shows up blank
'cause I'm finally home again.
It's dangerous business walking out your front door.
If you don't keep your feet, then who knows where you'll go?
We wrote all these lyrics as something of a map
to hold fast to the Good and stick tight with our friends.
And those lines are still true:
I'll still never grow old.
I still know where I'm going.
I still know where I came from.
